Wesbrook Preschool welcomed back Christopher Burt in January to speak to our parents. The topic of Chris’ presentation was Promoting Peer Social Competence: A seminar specific to parents with preschoolers. Learn the importance of this key developmental skill, how its connected to emotional self-regulation and school readiness, and how you can support your preschooler to initiate and maintain friendships.
Christopher gave a wonderful presentation, full of hilarious and relatable examples of parent and child behaviour, and realistic tips for dealing with our small humans. Playing with peers is different from play with siblings. The presentation explored the importance of peer play and how much is learned through children’s social interactions. We can support our children by helping them name and accurately express their feelings. During play, parents can help build wanted social behaviours by providing descriptive commentary.
Christopher proved to be an engaging and informative professional resource. It was a pleasure having him speak to our Wesbrook community..
