Snowman Fun Science Experiment

IMG_3234After reading the book “Sadie and the Snowman,” the PM class children discussed and made prediction about how long it took for a bag of water to freeze into ice. We made a list to record children’s guess and check our freezer according to children’s prediction. At the end of the session, the children were excited to know it took about two hour to freeze our little bag of water

As well, the children had a chance to make a baking soda snowmen. The children took turn to measure baking soda, salt, soap and water into a mixture. Then, we rolled two baking soda balls to form a snowman. What would happen if we put some vinegar on our baking soda snowman? Some children thought the snowman would melt; one child said it would break; another child thought it might become bigger!

After our prediction, the children took turn to add vinegar on the snowman with an eye-dropper.

The baking soda snowman slowly fell apart; then, we could see so many small bubbles! The children enjoyed the experiment so much that some children stayed at the table and kept adding vinegar into the tray until they used up the whole cup of vinegar!
